Sometime early in s6, hunters looked at the talent hunter vs. wild and thought to themselves, what if I gemmed and enchanted completely for stamina? The desire to make a gimmicky kind of build work is understandable given how successful, in WOTLK alone, stuff like shadowfrost DKs (a phenomenon that appears to be making a comeback in the aptly named sfrost 2.0 spec), fan of knives rogues, and other specs were. These builds revolve around pressing 1 or 2 buttons and completely overwhelming the opponents with damage. Unfortunately for hunters, if there is a truly effective, gimmicky build out there, it has yet to be discovered. Today I will explain why stam-stacking isn’t worth it. The proof, I hope, is in the pudding. But first an explanation: (more…)

This post will feature useful tips for hunters versus each class. The tips are meant to be general, and you should look for ways to apply them in any setting you can. Playing your class to its fullest is one of the few remaining ways to enjoy WoW, since the advent of the Death Knight ;) (more…)
Ignis trash and kiting magma ragers!

An update and a couple of tips today on Ignis’s trash. First off, flame herpes has been taken out of the game. You no longer have to heal through a jumping dot while trying to clear the trash on the way to the pools. Also, they took out a few groups. The trash now have a very low chance of wiping your group, and takes only a few minutes.
Those magma ragers come in pairs, as always, and spawn fire whirlwinds that grab you and deal damage while trying to fling you to your death. They move slow and are easy enough to avoid, but one tactic that’s worked well for our group is kiting one of them out of harms way while the second one is dealt with. (more…)
How to save a healer!

We’ve all been there- you’re doing a fight with multiple tanking targets, and possibly multiple tanks. Healers can generate a lot of agro. Some of them don’t have clutch agro reducing abilities. Sometimes they get something pounding on them, and like all of the weaker classes, get mulched in short order. Today I’m going to write about something that will make my guild healers prioritize me next raid: how to save a healer, and how to avoid siccing mobs on them. (more…)

Continuing my series on Ulduar encounters from a hunter’s perspective, Razorscale. Much nerfed recently, the Razorscale encounter is still lots of fun, and a challenge if you’re undergeared. My guild got her to 2% health when we inadvertently 9 manned her (forgot to summon someone), and the tank had forgotten to take off some non-tanking gear he had worn for the iLvl to vehicle health mechanic in the flame leviathan encounter. When we got the tank defense capped again and summoned the 10th person, we got the quick shave achievement without even trying. There’s no trash on the way in. Starting the event involves simply talking to an NPC. (more…)
Sniper Training vs Trap Dancing!

There are two perfectly functional hunter builds that you can use to magnify the effects of your explosive shots. One uses sniper training, the other uses resourcefulness to increase your lock and load procs (remember, these builds are baselines- spend the remainder of your points as you see fit). Both are viable and used by many hunters. Which you take will be based on your own style, but neither will last past the next patch.
