editor’s note: Please put your hands together for the newest OutDPS writer, Shadowstreak! You might know of him as the artist for the Frostheim Goggles comic, over at WHU. If not, go check it out- it’s some funny stuff!
Shadowstreak will be writing about addons, since Faeghleis is taking a break from the game until Cataclysm.
Hello there OutDPS readers! Today we’ll be talking about OmniCC!
I decided to start with this because it’s a small, yet really useful mod. I’ll get to the staples of the mod world in further posts. Unlike what the name suggests, OmniCC has absolutely nothing to do with crowd controlling. I’m sure some of you out there might actually find that this mod alone will be able to increase your DPS! Not just for hunters, but any class that has an action bar.
The mod basically places a number over the individual spells and abilities in the action bar that will count down how long it will be until this ability or spell is ready to be used again. This replaces the need to stare long and hard at the swirly clock-like black shadow (or whatever you call it) that blizz currently has implemented for cooldown timers. So now, all you have to do to see if that ability is nearly ready is a quick glance over to see what the number is at rather then having to work out the position that the count-down clock (lets call it that) is at relative to the spell/abilities cool down. This even saves you having to mouse over the ability to see how long it has on cool down. This is particularly useful on abilities with cool downs that reach up to the 30 second and beyond mark. One very quick glance over and bang, you instantly know how long until that ability is ready to be used again.
This is a very small mod with a light memory footprint, and I find it to be one of those mods that is so incredibly intuitive and useful that I wonder why blizz doesn’t just build this in to the game.
Here is a screen shot of OmniCC in action:
You can change things like font, text size, and color around to your liking, but the mod more or less works right out of the box, no configuration necessary.
Basically, now you can glance at two shots on cooldown in your rotation, and instantly tell which is going to come off CD first.
Well, there you go folks- my first mod post! Unless Frostheim gets off his dwarven duff and gets me some comic scripts across for me to draw, I’ll keep writing these until Rip makes me stop. I need something to do on the internet ;)
