Daylight savings time is evil and stupid. I just don’t care. God, it’s so early. I hate everything. /emo
Anyways, tonight I’ll be stress testing an interesting little setup I created the other night- a pair of Power Auras string sets that will tell you what buffs you are missing and what debuffs your unfriendly target is missing. I am keeping it to hunter only ones, so while spell damage is in there, spell crit is not.
Right now, it’s all set up incorrectly- I have it testing my character by name, and that won’t help many of you. I’ve found how to make it work for anyone, however, so I’ll make these changes tonight, and double check its accuracy in tonight’s raid. This should be very useful if you find yourself wandering in and out of range of valuable buffs, as well as alerting your raid leaders about potential debuffs they could stack to make things easier.
So in terms of UI placement, I put the missing buffs just under where the minimap goes in the default UI- top right of the screen. The quest tracking goes there by default, so I assume many people will have that spot empty. All you need to do to clear it for use is to go into your options, and change it so that your quest tracker no longer tracks quests by default. That or minimize the quest objectives every time you zone or reload your UI.
The debuffs go right in the center of the page- about an inch higher than your character’s head, usually. That one was a little riskier, because a lot of people use that real-estate for heads up info that they need to see while running out of fires. Luckily, the debuffs list is so much shorter than the buff list that if you really can’t use this positioning, you can move them somewhere more convenient with a minimum of time. As it is, I’ve fit them together quite nicely, where the armor debuffs are on the right, judgements are on the left, and bleed/magic debuffs (etc) are in the center and slightly larger.
Stay tuned- as soon as I fix any typos and stress test this in a real 25 raid, I’ll post the strings here.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this works. As a MM hunter I am used to not having to re-apply Serpent Sting very often, if at all, and occasionally I’ll catch myself having gotten distracted and let it fall off. Same with HM sometimes on these fights that take forever to get through.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, but this actually won’t monitor serpent sting or anything else you’re responsible for (like auras or personal buffs/procs). There are a couple good poweraura tutorials for hunters out there on the internet already, but I may consider doing one myself someday.
Euripides, this sounds like a great idea. I have my Power Auras set up to remind me about everything I can affect, but would love to see a string for other necessary buffs and debuffs.
I look forward to trying it out once you get it tested!
I think there will be way too many (de-)buffs to setup this with power auras (unless it consumes very much space or it will be too confusing to allow instantly checking a missing debuff).
You should have a look at utopia (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/utopia.aspx). I think this is exactly what you want to achieve.
Heh, I went to all the trouble of setting up power aura strings, and you go and find the perfect addon :\
Thanks Sev!
Euripides,
I think this MIGHT help in this mod, or maybe the big one that is getting worked on or maybe one in its own, but on previous posts and I think Web shows, it was talked about specing a certain way that you UN_replenish your talents in favor of DPS, espcially if you have class A, B and &C in the the raid. Could this “missing buff” mod also show what potiental buff you could/shoud recieve from other classes in your raid? Just a thouht.
I’m intrigued to see how this works, I’ve been thinking of trying some new stuff with Power Auras to really push the limit of what its capable of since I use it for practically everything else. Hopefully it all works out, since I’d love to copy something like this as well >:]
Quality ideas as usual!
I haven’t tested your strings, Euripides, but what would REALLY rock is if Power Auras could, instead of bugging the poor overworked hunter, automagically shoot a tell to that damn warrior who insists on wanting to keep Battle Shout up yet keeps forgetting to re-apply it. Or anyone else of the slacking lesser classes, for that matter.
PS. Thanks for a great podcast!
That level of customization would probably require a specially coded addon.
Very interesting, couple of days ago I had the same idea for my missing melee Buffs. Then I made a complete list auf missing buffs so far with powa auras. When applied coloured in the typical classcolours… battleshout = brown, lock =purple etc. Next days I´m going to add debuffs like sunder amor stacks ^^
