I got a couple of interesting comments on my last post about this, and it got me thinking. The spreadsheets and websites are not perfect models for in game results- everyone knows the disclaimers that come with using them. I am curious about how big the DPS difference of a BM hunter really is, and I would like to solicit some in game data from you folks to compare to the spreadsheet predictions.
I understand that the best DPS parses of BM hunters are available on logging sites, however that data is biased. The best geared hunters tend to spec MM, so comparing their parses against the best geared BM hunters won’t be an apples to apples comparison.
A few caveats. Make sure you have permission to:
- share your raid’s data
- run as BM every second fight
I’d like to see public parses of raids where hunters switch between BM and some other raiding spec. Also, I’d like to know which of the hunter’s specs is the main raiding spec. Especially valuable will be parses from multiple attempts on a non-gimmick boss where all the buffs and debuffs are very similar from attempt to attempt. Also, if you can arrange for more than one hunter to take turns speccing BM, that will help even more.
The one variable that is going to make analyzing this a challenge is skill. Unless we have a few raiding BM hunters, it’s safe to assume that most hunters will be more skilled with SV or MM, since they use it more. I’m not sure how to control for this, but I will acknowledge it in the results.
Post the links to your parses in the comments here. I’ll summarize them and see exactly how much in game DPS changes when players go BM.
