Huge thanks to Krazyk from Durotan for posting about this on EJ. During the Valithria Dreamwalker event in ICC, the goal is to burn down adds while your healers heal the dragon to full health. Needless to say, the raw healing output of paladins is very useful for this encounter, however there’s something we can do to help them.
- Beacon of light the dragon
- Have one hunter bring a tenacity pet specced into blood of the rhino to increase healing effects done by 40%
This means that whenever any paladin doesn’t need to raid heal, they can dump heals onto this pet and get a increase to the heals received by the dragon.
edit: apparently beacon ignores the 40% extra healing, but the glyph of holy light may still be affected. I’ll test this as soon as I can, but has anyone tried this already?
edit 2: I asked this on epicadvice.com, and I’ll do what I can to test tonight.
edit 3: I tested this, and any heals done to the beaconed target are what the original heal would have been. However, if the paladin has the glyph of holy light, the splash heals done around the pet will be inflated and they will all properly transfer to the beacon.
I`ve tested this and the glyph is affected by blood of the rhino!
According to Feist’s comment on EA, the comment on wowhead is just wrong. gnarf’s original comment + Feist’s followup both confirm that Blood of the Rhino does affect beacon.
Note that the Pally healer in the linked wowhead comment on EA is sending heals to the warlock — who is presumably using Demon Armor, which gives a 20% healing buff. Same idea, just without a tenacity pet involved.
I edited the post- while the actual heal doesn’t inflate with blood of the rhino, the holy light splash does.
Excellent tip, thanks. Valithria seems riddled with small tricks and macros that are useful for hunters. I like to to macro Viper Sting to a /tar Risen Mage line. Helps immensely with mana.
Here’s my particular musing/question though: my guild is already downing Val, and while we’ll probably use this to make it easier, it’s not absolutely needed. But I’m trying to figure out somewhere else it might be useful. Something like back when Koralon’s Meteor Fists were serious business and a tank healer needed epic heals during a short span of time on only one target. I could see this being useful in a situation like that.
Does the current content have any situations like that (assuming normal tank/heals/dps group composition and mechanics) that we can think of? And the answer may very well be no, but I figured I’d put it out there who may be more familiar with healing mechanics than I.
Anyone else want to see this fight done with 25 Holy pallys? All popping Lay at the beginning.
Dreamwalker is one of the easiest bosses in ICC, are people really having trouble to the point where they have to look into kitschy strats like this? If so, they’re doing something wrong.
Haven’t tried the heroic version yet myself, but I’d imagine something like this would make it much easier
If you’re talking 10m I would agree, 25m can be quite the obstacle for many guilds.
[…] this increased heal was transferred directly to our beacon. They nerfed that almost immediately. As researched by the hunter community, the buff does increase the healing from the glyph of holy li…, which is a huge portion of our healing in this fight. If you have a pet to spare, it might be […]
Last I’d heard this has been fixed with 3.3.3. Can anyone confirm/deny?
You guys just mentioned it on episode 30, but i think it’s been fixed by the time you released that episode.
Last I heard, it still worked, but I’ll have to test it.
It certainly appears that it has been fixed. Which is a shame, was a nice change to bring my gorilla to raid ;)
