I’m in the process of learning how to use simulationcraft. This is an incredibly powerful tool that lets you test and simulate situations in WOW. In my case, I plan on using it to try to figure out a “best practices” for cooldown use, as well as test some wisdom we’ve been using for a while. For example- the way we use lock and load was determined a long time ago, and the game has changed since then.
This is different than the standard spreadsheets or web calculators- those are deterministic (meaning the same config will always show you the same number) and rely on formulas to model the interaction between various factors. Sometimes these formulas are rough averages, which makes the tool excellent for comparing one upgrade or spec over another, however less good at telling you accurately whether you get more DPS by refreshing a serpent sting before firing your lock and load explosive shots.
If there are any simulationcraft gurus reading this who wouldn’t mind answering some noob questions, please send me an email at email@example.com :)
